CITATION PAYMENT

Oakwood Municipal Court is one of over 400 local courts of the Georgia Judicial System. Jurisdiction is limited to misdemeanor offenses of shoplifting of $500 or less; possession of marijuana (less than 1 ounce) and traffic offenses including DUI. The court adjudicates violations of local ordinances including zoning and parking offenses. Oakwood Municipal Court provides a Court Interpreter as well as a Public Defender at no charge to the violator.

If you are under the age of 21 and have a moving Violation you must appear in Court.

If you have received a citation in City of Oakwood
To dispose of a Citation, you have four options:

• Option 1: Pay your fine in person at the Oakwood Police Department 4035 Walnut Circle Oakwood, GA 30566.
• Option 2: You can mail a check or money order to P.O. Box 99 Oakwood, GA 30566. 
• Option 3: You may use a credit or debit card (Service fee may apply) and go online to play at www.EZCourtpay.com once paid, you do not have to appear in court.
• Option 4: Appear in Court – To enter a plea.

Oakwood conducts Court at 5:00pm.  The admin office closes at 4:00pm and then reopens for court.

Doors open at 4:45 PM and you will be called in the order that you came in. Municipal Court has the right and power to conduct non-jury trials, receive guilty pleas and impose sentence in the manner required by law. These sentences may also be served on probation. In most cases once sentences and conditions are met then probation is ended.

You may contact the Clerk of Court @ 770-534-2364 or you may appear in court on the date and time notated on your citation. To request a continuance, you must appear in court.

If you fail to pay your fine or appear in court, a bench warrant and contempt of court notice will be issued for your arrest. This may result in your driver’s license being suspended.

Courtroom Rules

There is a dress code in Municipal Court, casual or business attire is requested. Shirts and shoes are required. Hats are not allowed to be worn in the court room. Excessively revealing clothing will not be permitted.

No weapons of any kind are allowed in the courtroom, this includes small pocketknives. Cell phones and pagers must be turned off in the courtroom.

CHIEF COURT CLERK
Leah Delerme

Leah Delerme has been with the City of Oakwood since 2015. She began her career with Oakwood Police Department as a police clerk, quickly becoming GCIC certified and proficient in the Police operations. 2016 she received her certification for Municipal Court Clerk. Leah is also the GCIC TAC for the Court Division of Oakwood. Working closely with the community to make the Court process as smooth as possible is the most rewarding part of her job. Leah and her daughter, Avery are long-time residents of Hall County and enjoy boating on Lanier and shopping locality from our delightful community shops.

MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE
Hammond Law

As the municipal court judge for the city, Hammond Law handles adjudication of traffic and misdemeanor offenses that occur in Oakwood. With 27 years of experience as an attorney, he is a partner at the law firm of Whitmer & Law, where he has been practicing since 1985. A graduate of North Georgia College, he went on to earn his law degree at the University of Georgia School of Law in 1982.

Law has three children, Kaitlin, Lindsay and Jake. Law is married to Bree Law and has two step-children, Ford and Ray. A member of First Baptist Church in Gainesville, he enjoys bicycling, running and UGA athletics.

COURT SOLICITOR
Billy Hollingsworth

William B. Hollingsworth is the Solicitor for the City of Oakwood, Georgia. The Solicitor prosecutes all criminal cases for the City of Oakwood that involve violations of Oakwood City ordinances and various laws of the State of Georgia. William B. Hollingsworth is an Attorney engaged in the private practice of law since 1998, with twenty years of legal experience. He is a former Hall County, State Court Assistant Solicitor-General. William earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia in 1994, and his Juris Doctorate degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 1998.

William B. Hollingsworth and his wife, Jennifer, have three sons, Will, John Knox and Henry. William, a lifelong resident of Hall County, Georgia, is a member of Gainesville’s First Baptist Church. He enjoys hiking, paddling and fly fishing.

PUBLIC DEFENDER
Leslie Aiken
 
As municipal court public defender, Leslie Aiken assists and advises defendants who appear in court without a lawyer. Aiken has been a criminal defense and civil litigation attorney for more than 15 years. After graduating from Georgia State University in 1990, he earned his law degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 1994.

COURT INTERPRETER
Vicente Bautista
 
Vincente Bautista is an established member of the Gainesville city, and Hall County community since 1988. Mr. Bautista's career objective is to offer an interpreting service that facilitates a better understanding between members of the Spanish speaking community and our Georgia judicial system including, but not limited to, courts, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and other related entities.
 
During the years of 1988-1990, Mr. Bautista served as State Court Bailiff in Gainesville, GA. Since 1990, Mr. Bautista has been a Georgia Court Interpreter, and since 2000, has been a Certified Superior Court Interpreter according to the Georgia Supreme Court Commission on Interpreters. Also, Mr. Bautista is a Registered Mediator (Alternate Dispute Resolution), 9th Judicial District.
